The Sea Marge Hotel in Overstrand, North Norfolk was host to a vintage musical extravaganza on Wednesday, as part of the COAST festival.
The Honeybirds performed to a packed venue to celebrate the ‘First World War Centenary’ a fitting contribution to the festivals ‘War and Peace’ theme.
Daisy Thurkettle, Jenny Smith and Tessa demonstrated close-harmony singing complete with vintage-style dresses and hairdos. Their repertoire featured unforgettable wartime gems including, ‘We’ll Meet Again’ and ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo’
Daisy sang the highest harmony in the Honeybirds and explained how much she loved singing jazz standards, she said “It’s a real pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful festival and everyone’s been so friendly. There is a real community spirit here”
Jenny sang the middle harmony and Tessa provided the lowest harmonies, with beautiful precision. Some of the audience compared the trio with the Andrews Sisters, from the swing and boogie-woogie eras. The group consisted of three sisters: contralto LaVerne Sophia, soprano Maxine Angelyn ‘Maxene’ and mezzo-soprano Patricia Marie “Patty”
