Cromer has a new Carnival queen after a successful selection evening in the town last night.
The competition to find the 2014 Carnival queen and senior attendant was held at the town’s Cliftonville Hotel.
Hayley Massingham, was chosen as queen, known as Miss Cromer and Erin Holroyd became the new senior attendant.
Miss Massingham received a £200 prize, Sponsored by Woodrow’s Chartered Surveyors, Cromer and Erin a £150 prize, Sponsored by Icarus Hines Butchers, Cromer.
The pair will feature heavily in the Cromer Carnival week and will be supported by two junior attendants and a prince and princess, who remain to be selected.
Carnival chairman Tony Shipp praised volunteers who give up their time each year to make the carnival, which is among the largest of its kind in the UK, such a success.
Carnival week is always held in August, in the week which includes the third Wednesday.
So this year it will be held from Saturday 16th August to Friday 22nd August, with Carnival Day being held on Wednesday 20th August 2014.
Last years queen, Jade Armstrong, was present to hand over the title “It is a real confidence boost for me” said Miss Armstrong and she explained how important the event was for the town.
As well as being involved in the carnival events, Miss Cromer, the senior attendant and the younger positions also visit older people in the community in nursing homes and Cromer hospital. They will all hold the positions for one year.
Selection night organiser Michelle Hedge said: “For a town like Cromer it is important to keep certain traditions going and I’m absolutely delighted with the response this evening”
The competition last night was sponsored by Cromer businesses Icarus Hines Butchers and Woodrows Chartered Surveyors and ten people entered the competition. They were individually interviewed by four judges.
A selection night for the two junior attendants, who must be girls, will be on Friday May 2 at 7pm at the Cottage, Louden Road, Cromer. Entrants can turn up on the night and must be aged 12-16 years.
The search is also on for the next Prince and Princess for Cromer and an event will be held on Sunday, May 4 – 3:00pm at The Community Hall, Garden Street, Cromer.

Entrants must be 7 to 11 years and live within the areas of Cromer, Suffield Park, and the Parishes of Aldborough, Aylmerton, East and West Runton, Felbrigg, Hanworth, Northrepps, Overstrand, Roughton, Sidestrand, Sustead, Trimingham and Thorpe Market.
Contestants must be able to attend all day Sunday 17th and Wednesday 20th August 2014 and for the whole of Cromer Carnival Week if possible.
