Cromer and Sheringham Crab and Lobster Spectacular Countdown

The popular annual Crab and Lobster Festival Kicks off this weekend celebrating it’s 5th successive Year, highlighting Cromer and Sheringham’s crab and lobster fishing industries. It features North Norfolk’s local seafaring heritage and its links to the sea, for visitors, businesses and the local community alike to enjoy.

This year’s festival begins with a spectacular Opening Concert on Friday 16 May at the world famous Cromer Pavilion Theatre – a night of seaside fun, folk , comedy and music.

The weekend continues in Cromer on Saturday 17 May and in Sheringham on Sunday 18 May with delicious seafood, great entertainment, crafts, music, comedy, film, food, stalls, crabster competitions and a special seafood Paella night.

There will also be cookery demonstrations by local and celebrity chefs in a marquee on Evington Lawns, Cromer. Enthusists will be shown how to make the most of local fresh seafood over the two days. Organiser Nick Samujlik said: “This year will be an exciting mix of traditional, oriental and educational demos that will have your mouth watering and your taste buds tingling for more”.

Local fishermen will be demonstrating local crafts, such as net braiding and pot making that have been a way of life for decades.

Committee member and local fisherman, John Davies, said “Fishing is an important part of the two towns’ heritage and visitors to this fine festival will be able to embrace at first hand these traditional crafts and take a look at how the fishermen construct the traditional wooden crab pots”

Visitors will also be able to see Crab Dressing demonstrations and take part in crab dressing competitions. Alongside the main attractions, they’ll find many activities for children and family street entertainment , Including a Punch and Judy show from a bygon seaside era to the vibrant and colourful Razz the Clown.

Local museums will also be running featured events. There’ll be fishermen’s step dancing performances at Cromer Museum and an opportunity to make your own crab puppet at the RNLI Henry Blogg Museum in Cromer.

On the evening of Saturday 17 May, the Festival will be hosting its debut Seafood Paella evening in the Festival marquee in Cromer. This larger than life dish will be prepared in a six-foot paella pan by The Grove, Cromer, and will feature both crab and lobster.
