The Crab and Lobster Festival’s annual Art Trail and Seafood Trail launched in Cromer and Sheringham on Good Friday, 19 April.
Over 70 decorative boats have popped up in shop windows and open spaces across Cromer, Sheringham and further afield as part of the Bootiful Boat Art Trail and local eateries are hosting delicious seafood in celebration of the annual Seafood Trail.
Both trails are featured on a Festival Trail leaflet which can be picked up in local tourist information centres.
The Bootiful Boats, decorated by local artists, school-children, community groups and shops, have been adorned and transformed in the same spirit as the Festival’s Lifebuoy Art Trail in 2013. The majority have a crab and lobster as part of the design and people can follow the trail, choose their favourite and enter a fantastic prize draw.
People have knitted, painted, sewn and used photography to decorate the Boats which will all be auctioned off to the highest bidder to raise funds for charity in the Festival’s annual Charity Auction on August 24 2014.
The Scrumptious Seafood Trail features over 20 local cafes, restaurants, pubs and hotels who will all be offering delicious, local seafood with a Festival special dish.
Festival Chairman Tony Shipp said “We are delighted to start the Festival on such a positive note. We hope the Bootiful Boat Art Trail will be as successful as the lifebuoys, it’s a fabulous way for locals and visitors to explore the area and see some unique and wacky designs along the way”.
He added “with the Seafood Trail beginning as well we hope everyone will enjoying sampling some scrumptious seafood in our local pubs, restaurants and cafes”.
The Crab & Lobster Festival, which runs 16-18 May, will kick off the coming holiday season with an Opening Concert at Cromer Pier Pavilion Theatre on Friday 16 May hosted by Olly Day and featuring The Sheringham Shanty-men, La Grosse Erreur and Nigel ‘Boy’ Sayer. Tickets for the concert are £7.50 and are now on sale from the Pavilion Theatre box office on 01263 512495.
The Bootiful Boat Art Trail will remain in place until Friday 15 August when all Boats will be prepared for the Festival’s annual Charity Auction on Sunday 24 August to coincide with the last weekend of Cromer Carnival.
