Crab and Lobster Festival auction was wheely good

Bidders went to town, handing over more than £7,000 for decorated ships’ wheels. The charity auction consisted of a whopping 101 wheels and was a fitting finale event after carnival and Cromer and Sheringham Crab and Lobster Festival.

Enthusiasts on Cromer Pier’s forecourt braved a downpour with brollies in hand as charity auctioneer Martyn Fox, of Keys in Aylsham, started the fun.

Tony Shipp, chairman of organisers for the crab and lobster festival, said he was overjoyed with the result and acknowledged everyone for turning up in the rain. Proceeds go to local good causes with the previous five events raising more than £30,000 in total.

Wheels had been decorated by a range of local folk from professional artists to creative amateurs, and groups including guides and schools. On Auction day the World Pier Crabbing Championship was also held.
