Cromer pier was host to a spectacular Bollywood movie shoot on Friday. Unsuspecting visitors and locals were treated to vibrant dance routines and action packed sequences from the forthcoming feature.
Directors, choreographers and producers transformed the pavilion end of the pier into an open movie set for a movie called Housefull 3 . People took their usual stroll along the boards and the whole atmosphere was quite relaxed, even though initially it was kept under wraps.
Housefull 3 is a 2016 Indian comedy film written and directed by director duo Sajid-Farhad and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. It is the sequel to 2012 comedy film, Housefull 2 and the third installment of the Housefull film series. It stars Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri and Lisa Haydon in the lead roles. The film is scheduled to release on 3 June 2016.
Jo Atherton, marketing manager at Cromer Pier, said she was overjoyed at the progress after the pier was hit by devastating sea storms a couple of years ago:
“I can’t say too much about the movie at the moment, however, I’m delighted that our beautiful pier attracts film company’s from across the globe”
The award winning pier has been a backdrop for various TV dramas and celebrity visits in recent years.
When fictional DJ Alan Partridge held the world première for his film Alpha Papa in Norwich he praised Cromer pier and said how much he enjoyed filming in North Norfolk. He added “My favourite location during filming was Cromer Pier. I’ve been to Blackpool Pier, Brighton Pier, Southend Pier – but Cromer is quite simply the best pier.”
Earlier this year the pier was also featured in a BBC drama series Partners in Crime, starring David Walliams and Jessica Raine.
During Cromer Carnival former England cricket captain Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff drew the crowds on Cromer Pier. He was being filmed for a TV series, due to be screened by Sky next year, in which he tours Britain and Ireland in a mobile fish and chip van.
